Lighting of Macy's Great Tree |
|
(Events - Best of the City) |
November 26, 2009 3393 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta 30326 404-233-6767 |
 |
| |
Description:
Across Georgia, the state's tallest and fullest evergreen trees hope to become the Great Tree at Lenox Square Mall. The lucky specimen is decorated with ornaments the size of basketballs and erected for all to see on the roof of the shopping center. The lighting of the tree on Thanksgiving night is an Atlanta tradition that draws an on-location crowd – and an even bigger audience via television. Atlanta natives remember when the tree-lighting took place at the downtown Rich's department store. Now, Macy's at Lenox is the proud home of the tree and the holiday festivities. |

Description:
If it's already part of your holiday tradition to see this show, then you'll definitely want to check out the Shakespeare Tavern's production. If not, there's no time like the Christmas Present to start your appreciation for the classic Dickens tale. Seeing Scrooge and the Christmas ghosts never gets old – and may even help you rediscover a bit of holiday cheer for yourself. Of course, the beer and wine served by the Tavern before the show begins should go a long way toward getting you in the holiday spirit – um...make that spirits. |

Santaland Diaries |
|
(Events - Best of the City) |
November 27 - January 3, 2010 1083 Austin Ave NE, Atlanta 30307 404-584-7450 |
 |
| |
Description:
No holiday season is complete without a few laughs, and Santaland Diaries delivers them in spades. Written by humorist David Sedaris, the show is based on the This American Life contributor's days working as an elf for Macy's. The play depicts Crumpet the elf, an angry Santa's helper if ever there were one, who shares one funny anecdote after another. Santaland Diaries is the gift that keeps on giving, and after taking in this performance, you'll never see a visit to Santa in the same way again. • Note: Seating at Horizon Theatre is first-come, first-serve, and the show almost always sells out. |

December 2009 1 Georgia Dome Dr NW, Atlanta 30313 800-591-9198 |
 |
| |
Description:
The Chick-fil-A Bowl game and parade is a centerpiece for collegiate football fans in Atlanta, even if a hometown team isn’t in it. For some fans, the game ushers in a last hurrah for the college football season. For businesses, the game represents a perfect chance to woo visitors back for return visits to the Peach City. The events "kick off" on the 30th with the bowl parade, which starts at Peachtree Street and Ralph McGill Boulevard and ends at the Georgia World Congress Center. The 2007 game saw Auburn top Clemson in overtime and in 2008 LSU reigned over Georgia Tech. |

The Children's Christmas Parade |
|
(Events - Best of the City) |
December 5, 2009 Peachtree St Downtown Atlanta, Atlanta |
 |
| |
Description:
Even if gift-giving may be a little lighter than usual this year, that's no reason to stay at home like an old Scrooge. Get your family in the holiday spirit by attending this parade that winds through the streets of downtown Atlanta. Although standing on the sidewalk to watch the floats and bands pass by is free, you can reserve bleacher seats for prime parade viewing for $12 each. The parade is a benefit for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, so as you reserve seats (and perhaps make an additional donation), you can feel good about spreading the holiday cheer. |
