The 10Best Nightlife

Bars

Charlotte, NC

Best Bars (Nightlife)
(10 Overall Closest)
Aquavina
(Nightlife - Bars)
435 S Tryon St Ratcliffe on the Green, Charlotte  28202 • 704-377-9911
Description: UPTOWN. This restaurant and wine bar brings a sense of artsy cool to the Queen City. The main dining room sports polished hardwood floors, bold colors, sharp geometric lines, and thought-provoking sculptures suspended from the ceiling – a modern homage to the art of fishing. This bold sensibility carries over to the kitchen, which delivers edgy, beautifully presented fish and seafood dishes like lemongrass-enrobed corvina with Thai chili rock shrimp cakes or foie gras-stuffed sea scallops with chantrelles. Two things to note: If the weather is nice, ask for a table on the terrace (it overlooks the Green), and be sure to arrive early so you can enjoy one of their signature martinis at the bar. NB No smoking in the dining room, but smoking is allowed in the hallway adjoining the wine room and on the patio.

Cans of Charlotte
(Nightlife - Bars)
500 W 5th St at Graham St, Charlotte  28202 • 704-940-0200
Description: UPTOWN. True to its name, this groovy watering hole specializes in canned brew, if you can believe that. That's not to say the place is about only $2 domestics – as if that would be so terrible! It also boasts some of the most imaginative eats in town. Toss in a few rec-room standards like a pinball machine and a juke box that's loaded with classics from the 70s and 80s, and it's quite easy to settle in Cans for a few hours. Oh, and if you're looking for something to appeal to your more refined sensibilities, check out the lineups of martinis and specialty drinks.

Description: DILWORTH. A stalwart member of East Boulevard's restaurant row, City Tavern offers an appetizing Sunday brunch featuring cinnamon raisin French toast, omelet Florentine, and the tavern favorite, eggs and pork tenderloin. On the lighter side, try the fruit salad or the fabulous breakfast potatoes. The City Tavern also serves lunch and dinner and has been noted as one of Charlotte's best restaurants and/or nightspots in several local rags.

Jackalope Jacks Restaurant and Bar
(Nightlife - Bars)
1936 E 7th St, Charlotte  28204 • 704-347-1918
Description: ELIZABETH. Nothing fancy or over-the-top, this cozy brick home with the big deck may be a popular neighborhood watering hole at night – heck, it even gets high marks for its specialty martinis, country-fried chicken and hearty, homemade meatloaf. But what has truly impressed the regulars over the years is Jackalope Jacks' Sunday brunch, which is billed as the "best in town." Considering the tasty choices include build-it-yourself omelets, orders of bangers and mash, and traditional English breakfasts, who can argue with such a claim?

Moosehead Grill
(Nightlife - Bars)
1807 Montford Dr, Charlotte  28209 • 704-525-4088
Description: PARK ROAD. If the exterior of this popular watering hole looks familiar, that's probably because Moosehead occupies a building that once housed a Pizza Hut. It's true that the place isn't as pretty and stylish as hipster joints Uptown, but what it does have going for it is this: Long-time Charlotteans claim that the kitchen serves what may be the best bar eats in town. Add to that the fact that you don't have to put on airs to come in and have a good time, and it's easy to see why the place has such broad appeal.

Rí~Rá
(Nightlife - Bars)
208 N Tryon St, Charlotte  28202 • 704-333-5554
Description: UPTOWN. One of the Queen City's more popular watering holes, the multi-level Rí~Rá offers all the charm and comfort of a traditional Irish pub – in fact, considering that the Victorian-style bar itself was once part of the officer's mess hall at the barracks in Dublin's Phoenix Park, this place IS as Irish as you can get. Among the pub's more fascinating characteristics are its collection of Dublin ledgers (some of which date back to 1800), an antique Guinness mirror, and portraits of many of Ireland's greatest literary figures.

The Forum
(Nightlife - Bars)
300 N College St, Charlotte  28202 • 704-375-8765
Description: UPTOWN. Artful, modern digs mark The Forum experience, which also includes a rooftop garden that is perfect for taking in the skyline or watching the activity on the 7th Street Alley below. The Forum's spacious dance floor sits below an attractive mezzanine area, and the club books topflight DJs to keep the energy level high. Meanwhile, weathered brick walls, low-to-the-floor leather furniture and modern artwork give loungey Pravda a cool vibe all its own. Want further proof of Pravda's "chill" quality? Check out the ice bar, which keeps the expertly-poured potions at just the right sipping temp.
