First Saturday on the River

Description: Head down to River Street and stroll among booths exhibiting arts, crafts and food that appear on the first Saturday of every month from March through December. First Saturday events typically take on seasonal dimensions: May brings the Fine Arts Festival; October, Oktoberfest; November, the Seafood Festival; and December, Christmas on the River. A great series of activities for the whole family.

Description: These tours give folks a true glimpse of how the Historic District "does" the Holiday Season. Hosted by the Downtown Neighborhood Association, the tours feature a stunning collection of stately homes. In addition, several inn-keepers open their doors to ticket-holders and allow them to see how the District's inns dress for the season. NB Since these are walking tours, comfortable shoes and clothing are strongly encouraged; many homes are not disabled accessible.

St. Patrick's Day Parade & Celebration on the River

Description: Schedule your travel plans early for this event! The city swells with over 400,000 celebrants, and many folks extend their St. Paddy's Day stays to include even more time in Savannah. The Irish would be proud of the party place that the town becomes! Bleacher seating along the parade route is in two areas on Abercorn Street and one area on Bay Street. Lots of lively activity can be found along the river, and festivities throughout the area are visibly prominent. Description: This weekend of self-guided walking tours is among the best ways to gain an intimate knowledge of Savannah's beautiful Historic District, as each highlights four to six homes and gardens. Traditionally, tours are held during the last weekend in March. Advanced tickets are recommended; the tour headquarters is located at the Christ Church Parish House adjacent to Reynolds Square.

Sidewalk Arts Festival

It transforms Forsyth Park with chalk drawings and sidewalk masterpieces created by children and students and alumni of the Savannah College of Art and Design. A contest lets folks compete for the best drawings. Go early to find a parking place close to the park.
