Best Bars (Nightlife)
(10 Overall Closest)
17 Hundred 90 Inn and Restaurant
(Nightlife - Bars)
307 E President St, Savannah  31401 • 800-487-1790
Description: HISTORIC DISTRICT. A historic mansion dating from 1790, this property was restored and opened as an inn in 1976. Its restaurant recalls a brick-and-beams tavern, and its excellent American Continental menu features dishes like pecan-crusted grouper, coq au vin, and crab-stuffed shrimp. Happy hour specials attract lively crowds to the inn's cozy lounge, which (like the property itself) is apparently haunted by the ghost of a lovesick young woman.

Bernie's Restaurant and Bar
(Nightlife - Bars)
115 E River St, Savannah  31401 • 912-236-1827
Description: RIVERFRONT. Lots of wood and brick, along with a goodly supply of beer memorabilia and neon, give Bernie's casual appeal. The laid-back place occupies what was once a warehouse, and the historic charm is still there. It's a favorite hang-out of locals, who appreciate lots of sports on the telly, live music and a raw bar. The drinks of choice are cold beer and their signature Bloody Marys, punched up with lime, celery salt and pickled okra. Complementing them beautifully are a menu of pub fare and seafood. Great bartenders are an added perk.

Chuck's Bar
(Nightlife - Bars)
301 W River St, Savannah  • 912-232-1005
Description: RIVERFRONT. Invariably relaxed and populated by a largely local crowd, Chuck's is also a mainstay for gay folks. It's got a pool table, a jukebox and upholstery just made for lounging. The historic space provides time-tested character, and its off-the-beaten-path locale means that it's not a huge tourist spot. It is, however, considered something of a dive in the nicest, most beloved sense of the word. Chuck's is worth a visit for its charm and its low-key ambience, not to mention its intriguing, alternative clientele.

Shrimp Factory
(Nightlife - Bars)
313 E River St, Savannah  31401 • 912-236-4229
Description: RIVERFRONT. A white-painted brick building with candy-striped awnings establishes a cheery welcome at this long-lived eatery. Wood flooring, beams, and walls create a charming, rustic vibe, and there's typically a fun atmosphere at the bar. In fact, it should be known that the Shrimp Factory offers one of the best happy hours on River Street. The Chatham Artillery Punch, in particular, is wicked – the special recipe from 1819 mixes gin, rum, champagne, and brandy and will have a positive effect on your mood! The restaurant has many options but places an emphasis on shrimp, crab, and fish.
