Jazz'd Tapas Bar
(Restaurants - Best Value)
52 Barnard St, Savannah  31401 • 912-236-7777
Description: HISTORIC DISTRICT. This happening night spot occupies the basement of the historic Kress building, but its funky, industrial appeal is decidedly modern. A long metallic bar, black tabletops, red-seated chairs, and vibrant paintings accent the room, and a separate lounge features dark leather couches. An extensive small plates menu ($5-12 each) draws from a wide variety of culinary traditions, and you'll want to try a variety to get the full effect. Opt for the baked cheese terra cotta plate with its accompaniments of roasted garlic, sliced green apples, and French bread, or sample Cuban-rubbed beef satays with jalapeno glaze. Wines (by the bottle or glass), ports, and over twenty martinis grace the drinks menu. Live music is a nice addition from Wednesday till Sunday.

Pirate's House
(Restaurants - Best Value)
20 E Broad St, Savannah  31401 • 912-233-5757
Description: HISTORIC DISTRICT. With a tradition of hospitality dating back to 1753, this establishment did, indeed, cater to seamen early on. These days, it's got a more sedate clientele, and they're more inclined to gluttony than to marauding. Locals frequently recommend the highly rated restaurant, and its 15 different dining rooms can handle a host of patrons. The menu specializes in seafood (everything from a stomach-sating seafood platter to grouper Florentine), and there's a terrific, reasonably-priced Southern lunch buffet as well from 11am till 3pm. Fabulous desserts round out a great meal.

The Lady and Sons
(Restaurants - Best Value)
102 W Congress St, Savannah  31401 • 912-233-2600
Description: HISTORIC DISTRICT. Y'all, this is Paula Deen's restaurant, and tons of her fans show up regularly to sample the cuisine she's touted on places like the Food Network and in her cookbooks. After a (sometimes lengthy) wait, folks get to tuck into genuine Southern cuisine, from fried green tomatoes and fried chicken to shrimp-and-grits and pecan pie. The lunch buffet is a great deal, too, letting you eat all that you can in the great tradition of Southern hospitality. While some patrons prefer the a la carte menu, you can be certain that – no matter which option you choose – you'll be well-fed before it's all said and done.
