Gourmet Pizza
(Restaurants - Greek)
2002 Augusta St, Greenville  29605 • 864-232-6222
Description: AUGUSTA ROAD. An Augusta Road favorite for pizza, this independent place also does a brisk business serving Greek, Italian, and pan-Mediterranean eats. Distinguished by a stacked-stone foundation and barrel-vaulted portico, the restaurant ushers folks into a cozy space where they can tuck into craft-your-own pies or opt for vegetarian varieties, standard combinations, or specialties like chicken alfredo, seafood scampi, and chicken dijon. If pizza's not on your mind, go for a calzone, stuffed pasta dinner, souvlaki, kebabs, gyro, or meal-sized salad.

Olympian Restaurant and Pizza
(Restaurants - Greek)
743 Congaree Rd, Greenville  29607 • 864-288-0300
Description: HAYWOOD ROAD. This casual restaurant isn't fancy, but it consistently offers good Mediterranean food and friendly service. While the bulk of the menu has a Greek inflection, you'll also find a solid array of Italian dishes. House specialties include pizza, which is oven-baked and thick with toppings, and Chicken Yanni, a succulent breast baked with spinach, feta cheese and artichokes. The salads are also good, in part because of the zesty, homemade salad dressing. In addition to the Greek selections, they serve calzones, subs and lasagna. Come early if you want to avoid the lunch lines.

Pita House
(Restaurants - Greek)
495-B S Pleasantburg Dr, Greenville  29605 • 864-271-9895
Description: SOUTH PLEASANTBURG. Incredibly popular for lunch, the Pita House is always crowded. Still, the service is fast and the patrons are never rude. Plus, the food is great! Garlicky hummus, fresh-baked pita bread, stuffed grape leaves, and hot falafel will appease your appetite for something unusual. When you place your order at the counter, keep an eye out for a table. Turnover is quick, but seats are at a premium. The best deals are plates, which come with a sampling of several foods. Share with some friends, and don't forget the baklava.

Stax's Original
(Restaurants - Greek)
1704 Poinsett Hwy, Greenville  29609 • 864-232-2133
Description: CHERRYDALE. This Greenville landmark sports an unimpressive exterior and a nondescript decor, but having breakfast at Stax's is a local tradition. The warmth of the staff, many of whom have worked there for ages, is well known, and the hearty, down-home breakfasts are highly recommended. For a true southern biscuit, light and slathered with butter, this is the place. Eggs, hotcakes, grits and all the basics are hot and satisfying, just like your mom used to make. As for later in the day, the meat and veggie selections have been keeping Greenville well-fed for years – and their roast beef and gravy has won over many a palate.
