Description:
Charleston’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration starts with a special 8am mass at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church (134 Saint Philip St), followed by a rousing parade at 10am. Representatives of various Irish heritage societies and clubs participate. After the parade, stick around for the Irish flag-raising at Charleston City Hall, and then head to the Knights of Columbus Hall for a corned beef-and-cabbage lunch. The remainder of the day is open – most of the bars in the downtown area go all out, with green beer and the like. |

Description:
A local tradition that stretches back to 1978, this 10K race draws more than 30,000 participants every year. From lean elite runners to weight-watching weekend warriors, this race attracts a diverse crowd from across the state and beyond (Oprah Winfrey and Bill Murray have both participated). There are several spots along the course, which crosses the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge before heading into downtown Charleston, where spectators can get a good view. Music, drinks, food, and revelry continue long after the race is over. If you wish to participate in the 10K run, the 7K walk, or the Kids Run, you must sign up beforehand – there is no race day registration. |

Description:
This festival is the little sister to the annual and nationally recognized Spoleto Festival held in Charleston. Piccolo Spoleto runs concurrently with Spoleto but focuses on regional talent, with many of its events being free to the public. Craft shows are offered two of the three weekends of the festival. Events are held at various venues throughout Charleston, such as the Planters Inn, Timberland High School, Waterfront Park, and the Rooftop Bar at the Vendue Inn. |

Description:
Kiawah takes great pride in its environmental conservation efforts, and preserving the life cycle and viability of loggerhead turtles is a major concern. To help visitors appreciate the creatures, talks are provided that explain how turtles mate, where they build nests, and how young turtles survive in the race to the sea after they hatch. The role of humans in helping this process is also detailed. Loggerheads nest from mid-May to mid-August, and hatchlings appear from mid-July through October. Children must be at least 3 years old and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. |

There will be a food court, beer garden, live music from The East Coast Party Band, and special fun areas for the kids at this all out extravaganza. The real treat, of course, will be a spectacular fireworks display over the water, launched from the flight deck of the USS Yorktown! Admission to the site is free; ships and museums charged separately. |
