This memorial chronicles the life and times of this influential civil rights leader, former slave turned educator, and visionary. This former tobacco farm, which was Washington's 1856 birthplace, has been reconstructed into a 224-acre living history park. In addition to the restored farm buildings, there are a visitor's center, nature trail, and picnic facilities on-site. The tour is further enhanced in the summertime, as costumed guides relate various aspects of mid-19th century Virginia and its effect on Washington. |
