        Description: In business for over 80 years, this local playhouse has an international reputation. The Des Moines Playhouse hosted the first International Community Theater Festival and continually entertains over 40,000 patrons yearly. The theater seats 450 people, and recently presented productions of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Jesus Christ Superstar." The playhouse also offers several community classes and camps through its educational efforts. Call ahead for listings and prices.

        Description: Step back into the Victorian era at the Hoyt Sherman Place. Originally built in 1877 as a manor home, a theater was added in 1923 and the structure is now a multi-purpose facility. Visitors can take a guided tour and see an impressive 17th century furnishings collection, as well as several 19th and 20th century art pieces. The tour of the house includes the entrance hall, parlor, library and dining room, as well as a Victorian bed and sitting room. The theater schedules a variety of performances that range from musical performances by groups like the Vienna Boys Choir to folk singers like Joan Baez.

        Description: For 20 years, this spectacular performance arena has been entertaining Des Moines audiences. The Civic Center is home to two stages. The Main Hall seats over 2,500 and features a proscenium stage. The Stoner Studio Theater provides an intimate setting and can handle 200 attendees. The center books a variety of entertainment groups, including touring Broadway companies. Throughout the year, various local groups such as the Drama Workshop and the Des Moines Symphony use the facility.
