Description:
LA JOLLA. Situated just above La Jolla Cove, this park is a favorite of weekend picnickers. It also invites strolls along the waterfront sidewalk and games of shuffleboard. Most of the surrounding area is a wildlife preserve, so it offers excellent swimming, diving and tidepooling. You may want to bring binoculars since sea otters and sea lions frequent the vicinity. A lifeguard station is staffed year-round, and although on-street parking can be tough, a number of public garages are within walking distance. |

Description:
LA JOLLA. Initially conceived as a memorial to Korean War veterans, this site now features a series of walls paved with black granite plaques that honor individual figures from all wars and from all branches of the service. A 43-foot cross stands atop Mount Soledad, and a large flag flies to honor US military personnel. Along with being a memorial, the area offers a terrific view of greater San Diego from atop 822-foot Mount Soledad. It's also an excellent place to have a picnic or to enjoy spectacular sunsets. |

Description:
LA JOLLA. This beautiful museum began in what was once the 1916 Mission-style home of Ellen Browning Scripps, noted San Diego philanthropist. (The Institute of Oceanography and the breathtaking oceanside park are named for Mrs. Scripps.) Expansion to the original building was completed in the mid-1990s. Houses an impressive collection of post-1950s contemporary art from famed California artists as well as works by Warhol, Cornell and Stella. Equally impressive are the building's architecture and unparalleled views of the Pacific. The Museum Cafe serves gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads as well as beer and wine. A must see for art lovers! |
