923 Decatur St, New Orleans 70116 504-523-1620 |
 |
| |
Description:
FRENCH QUARTER. If the muffuletta was the official sandwich of New Orleans, Central Grocery officially makes the best sandwiches in the city! For the uninitiated, a muffuletta is a loaf of bread layered with Italian meats and cheeses and crowned with a chopped olive mixture. Be warned that Central Grocery's sandwiches are huge – you might need to share with a friend. And if you want to sit down, get your sandwich to go – there is only a standing-room counter at the Grocery. |

Coop's Place |
|
(A Day in the City - A Day in the City) |
|
1109 Decatur St, New Orleans 70116 504-525-9053 |
 |
| |
Description:
FRENCH QUARTER. Small and tight, Coop's probably doesn't find itself on most travelers' agendas, and to be quite honest, that's a crying shame. Indeed, the well-worn surfaces and aged brick have a secret they're willing to share with those who venture in from the street. Unpolished, seductive, and some might say even a touch dingy, Coop's is as N'awlins as can be. Staples like shrimp Creole, Cajun-fried chicken, fried oysters and jambalaya are always good bets for lunch, sure, but if you really want to experience the place, come late and order the Taste Plate, which features the items above along with scrumptious portions of seafood gumbo and red beans & rice with sausage. |
