EAST FORT LAUDERDALE. Built in 1920, this breathtaking estate is on the National Register for Historic Sites and is a remarkable tribute to a bygone era. It is the former home of artists, Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. The family bequeathed the property to the Florida Trust in 1983. The plantation style home reflects the Bartlett's penchant for European art and architecture. The estate overlooks a lagoon and comprises 35 acres of lush botanical beauty, wetlands, a fruit grove, lily pond, boathouse, shell museum and a theater surrounded by a moat. There is a walking trail and swans, monkeys and other wildlife live on the property. Tours are available Tuesday through Sunday. Workshops and lectures are available to the public. The site is available for special events. The gift shop features numerous unique items. |

DAVIE. Botanical gardens, a one and a half-acre free-flight aviary featuring wading birds, a crocodile lagoon, river otter and bobcat habitats, wetlands, and a citrus grove make this lush tropical setting a fascinating place to visit. EAST FORT LAUDERDALE. Just off A1A, this museum highlights the achievements of notable swimmers and contains aquatic artifacts dating to the 15th century. Computerized exhibits let you pretend you are an Olympic swimmer, diver, or judge. There are two ten-lane, fifty-meter pools and an exhibition building featuring photos, medals, and other souvenirs, as well as a theater that features films of swimming stars such as Johnny Weissmuller and Esther Williams. There is also a gift shop and a cafe on the premises.

DOWNTOWN. This museum chronicles the city's history from the early Seminole era to World War II. It also offers information about the city's historic district and a chronology of its development. Other exhibits feature scale models of historic structures, including a recreation of a Seminole village complete with arts and crafts. Next door is the King-Cromartie House and the New River Inn, both of which feature period antiques and a variety of displays. Guided tours are available.
