Heritage Hjemkomst Festival

        Description: Celebrate Fargo-Moorhead's deep Scandinavian ties at this unique festival, held each June at the Hjemkomst Interpretive Center. During the three-day event, festivalgoers sample authentic Nordic cuisine, dance to traditional folk music, participate in genealogical research, and even shop around for handmade Scandinavian arts and crafts. Also located at the center are replicas of a Viking ship (the "Hjemkomst") and a traditional Nordic stave church.

        Description: Cotton candy, beanbags, and Ferris wheels – the Red River Valley Fair has been one of the region's largest, most anticipated annual events since 1904. Great fun for the entire family, the fair offers myriad activities and thrills, including carnival rides, games, and live performances. To get to the fairgrounds, simply take Main Avenue west toward I-94.

        Description: Classic Dixieland and Chicago blues make their way to Fargo each year in this celebration of American music, held at Newman Field. While great performances are the festival's focal point, it also features a wide range of food, drink, and novelty booths that offer a little bit of everything. Past performers have included the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Dickey Betts, R.L. Burnside, the Jeff Healey Band, and Roomful of Blues.

        Description: [Bi-annual event - next show is in June 2009.] From acrobatics by the Happy Hooligans and the Blue Angels in their F-16s to daring skydivers, the Fargo AirSho gives aviation buffs the experience of a high-octane July 4th afternoon. Aside from spectacular aerial displays, the air show also features a diverse range of exhibits, from Hummers and Hueys to historic planes and fighter jets. Tickets may be purchased through the Fargo-Moorhead CVB.

        Description: Think you're prepared for some seriously intense griddle action? Try stopping by the Civic Center for a hearty stack of Americana. Hosted by the local Kiwanis Club, this unique breakfast-time event annually draws more than 10,000 people, all of them clamoring to get their hands on homemade pancakes covered with maple syrup and maybe, just maybe, to have the honor of being asked to serve as flapjack flipper. In 2008, they set the new world's record for number of pancakes made in eight hours: 34,818!
