Description:
DULUTH. The Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad dates to the 1870s, when the first railroad linking Duluth to the Twin Cities was completed. These lines had heavy use until the 1930s, when commuter trains made their final runs. They were relatively forgotten then until the early 1980s, when a non-profit organization called the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad sought to preserve the tracks and share their rich history with future generations. One of their most popular efforts is a 90-minute rail excursion along the shores of the St. Louis River, Spirit Lake, and Mud Lake. |
