Advanced skiers from around the world rave about Alta's steep powder fields and long, fast runs, especially the mile-long Crooked Mile and the high-speed Greeley Bowl. Beginners and intermediates are taken care of at Alta as well, with several slopes designated for them. Alta's ski season usually runs from November to May, but the mountain has several trails appropriate for summer hikes as well. Snowboarding is not permitted. |

Today, people still flood into the lofty Big Cottonwood Canyon town – not because it's fancy but because it's one of the best values for the buck. More than 60 world-class runs, value-priced skiing and snowboarding lessons, and an annual snowfall average of about 500 inches combine to make Brighton one of the best downhill options in the country. |
