Description:
DOWNTOWN. This coffee house/bistro has such a loyal following that one location couldn't hold everyone; you'll find a second location at 5741 C Street SW. Evening entertainments such as poetry readings and open-mike nights are held regularly. Many locals drop in for a homemade cookie and an evening jolt of joe before hitting the bars or after dinner elsewhere (although Blue Strawberry does serve beer and wine, along with a mighty fine panini sandwich). Casual attire. |

Chrome Horse sponsors bands Friday and Saturday nights and offers karaoke, acoustic music and blues jams on other nights of the week. Casual dress. |

Description:
DOWNTOWN. The "small theater" movement was born in Cedar Rapids in 1925 when a group of locals performed a play in artist Grant Wood's studio. Through the years, the group grew and changed names; in 1981, it moved to its current location and became known as Theatre Cedar Rapids. Now, the community theater is one of the largest in the country, thanks to a volunteer base of more than 900 and a theater school that serves more than 300 students. Each season, almost 30,000 patrons attend the eight plays that TCR stages. |
