Description:
AMANA. Just a short drive from Cedar Rapids, the Amana colonies are a National Historic Landmark village settled in 1855 by German immigrants seeking religious freedom. The group lived a communal life and remained essentially unchanged until 1932, when citizens voted to privatize local businesses and dwellings. The colonists believed in hard work and prized craftsmanship, and these standards continue today. The village sells high-quality gift items, like hand-dipped candles, copper yard ornaments, brooms and baskets, quilts, clocks, fine furniture and decorative iron pieces. |

Description:
DOWNTOWN. A fifteen-block area of downtown Cedar Rapids is linked to an extensive sky bridge and parking system, making it a well-traveled shopping district with more than 130 retailers. Vendors offer everything from fine candies and upscale men's and women's apparel to jewelry, flowers, artwork, art supplies, books and cards. An ample array of cafes and restaurants is also happy to provide tables for weary (and hungry!) shoppers. "Downtown Discount" cards are honored in most of these area establishments. |
