(10 Overall Closest)
Flightpath Coffee House
(Restaurants - Coffee Shop)
5011 Duval St, Austin  78751 • 512-458-4472
Description: UNIVERSITY AREA. In days gone by, an airport was near this coffee shop's location – hence its name. The place is especially popular with studious folks, who appreciate its quiet ambience and deliberate lack of entertainment. They also find merit in Flightpath's spacious quarters, good lighting, WiFi access, and relaxed atmosphere. The menu covers all the bases, from good coffee drinks to quiches and pastries. There's even wine and beer should you need a reward for good work habits.

Flipnotics Coffeespace Café
(Restaurants - Coffee Shop)
1601 Barton Springs Rd, Austin  78704 • 512-480-8646
Description: BARTON SPRINGS DISTRICT. Not just a coffeehouse, Flipnotics juggles several roles and, happily, gets them all right. The enterprise, like many Austin coffeehouses, occupies a former home – in this case, a 1960s split level. However, Flipnotics is not the norm. On one floor is a funky clothing store, and on another is the actual coffeehouse. Along with good java, the menu promises sandwiches, muffins, quesadillas, and veggie burgers, along with wine and beer. Most nights of the week, a local band plays too.

Halcyon Coffee | Bar | Lounge
(Restaurants - Coffee Shop)
218 W 4th St, Austin  78701 • 512-472-9637
Description: WAREHOUSE DISTRICT. The one thing you can't help but notice about Austin is its eclectic blend of people and personalities, which exist in seeming harmony. This coffeehouse is one of the places that best exemplifies that simple truth. As you sip a cup of, perhaps, Vietnamese coffee, you're sure to see everyone from conservative business people to trendy Gen-Xers. They all share a love of the bean, and they often take advantage of the make-your-own s'mores too. A wonderful way to begin or end your day.

Description: SOUTH AUSTIN. Intent on customer satisfaction, Irie enjoys a loyal clientele and adds its own brand of cool to the neighborhood. The place's name (pronounced "eye-ree") is Jamaican and translates as "the state of feeling great." That vibe is evident thanks to a relaxed ambience, terrific coffee drinks, and a selection of sandwiches and baked goods that's available all day. (Customers are welcome to bring food in as well.) Colorful baristas contribute to the atmosphere, and WiFi, comfy leather furniture, and an outdoor patio are added perks.

Pacha
(Restaurants - Coffee Shop)
4618 Burnet Rd, Austin  78756 • 512-420-8758
Description: NORTH AUSTIN. A definite Latin flair characterizes this intimate, family-owned coffeehouse. Colorful tables, Mexican tilework, and handmade metal accents hint at the inspiration, and a wealth of native art and crafts from Bolivia and Peru adorn the place (luckily, they're for sale too). In fact, the name of the shop is a Native American term for "earth." Fair-trade coffees go into the java concoctions, and you'll also find teas, smoothies, chai, pastries, light fare, desserts, and even beer and wine.

Progress Coffee
(Restaurants - Coffee Shop)
500 San Marcos St, Austin  78702 • 512-493-0963
Description: EAST END. Progress Coffee's owners are admirably community-minded. They refurbished part of an old warehouse rather than building a new space, and they offer time and contributions to numerous local charities and events. Their attractive gallery space helps support Austin's burgeoning arts scene, and they regularly host local bands. Their civic-mindedness even induced them to offer only fair-trade, organic, shade-grown coffees. Of course, they also succeeded in creating a wonderfully appealing coffeehouse, which offers a tasty menu of freshly prepared sandwiches, salads, and baked goods.

Ruta Maya Coffee House
(Restaurants - Coffee Shop)
3601 S Congress Ave Penn Field Business Center, Austin  78704 • 512-707-9637
Description: SOUTH CONGRESS AVENUE. Ruta Maya used to be a downtown Austin institution, and their move to South Austin was a little bumpy initially. However, business is thriving today, thanks to all the folks who appreciate the owner's community involvement, social conscience, and commitment to sustainable agriculture – organic, shade-grown coffee is farmed just for Ruta Maya by a collective in Chiapas, Mexico. The place also offers an array of classes, art exhibits, live music, and family activities every day of the week.
