Description:
This yearly event, held on Mother's Day and in conjunction with the Blessing of the Fleet, was begun in the 1930s to celebrate the appearance of the Virgin Mary to several Portuguese children near Fatima and continues into the present-day. Parishioners from Brunswick's St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, carrying a hand-carved wooden statue of Mary, lead the processional through the local park and historic Hanover Square. |

Description:
Harkening back to Portuguese tradition, upon which much of the culture and life of the Georgia Islands is based, this annual event sends local shrimpers out with freshly blessed ships. The event kicks off the shrimping season each year and is a rich tradition for the community. Following the afternoon blessing event, visitors can sample food and a waterfront stroll through Brunswick's Mary Ross Park. |

This annual event on Jekyll Island draws athletes and their fans from around the region for a triathlon, 5K Run/Walk, educational programs about the wildlife of the region and live entertainment. Athletes will delight in the competition of running, swimming and biking, while friends and family can cheer them on and learn about the work of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, the beneficiary of proceeds from the weekend event. |

This annual African-American heritage event is sponsored by the St. Simon's African American Coalition each year and showcases the history and culture of the community. The event includes demonstrations of native life of the Gullah/Geechee peoples, music and the arts, religious and spiritual exhibitions, and community awareness information. Vendors sell traditional African-American and coastal island items, and musical and artistic performances are hosted throughout the four-day event. The annual festival is held in June each year and is open to the public. |

Each Independence Day, residents of quaint Jekyll Island, a beautiful natural wonderland on the coast, gather to commemorate America's Independence and celebrate their community.
